New York Restaurant: Grandmothers Rule at "Nonnas of the World"

The restaurant "Nonnas of the World," located on Staten Island, across from the towering skyscrapers of Manhattan in New York City (United States), is unique in that it employs only grandmothers on its staff. Dozens of them have come to prepare traditional dishes from their countries of origin, with simple and generous cuisine, built with the idea of preserving family know-how.
The concept was born in Joe Scaravella's mind almost 20 years ago, when this grandson of Italian immigrants had just lost his mother and grandmother. So he decided to open a trattoria to honor them and placed an ad for grandmothers to work as cooks. " The day of the interview, they came with their children, their husbands, and the house was full of people chasing me with plates so I could taste everything ," laughs the founder of "Nonnas of the World."
